The Basics Of Laminate Flooring
By stephenstewart
Depending upon who you talk to, Laminate flooring is arguably the most significant development in the flooring business in the past 25 years. OK, a pretty bold statement but what exactly is Laminate Flooring?

Developed in Sweden in the early nineteen eighties, Laminate flooring as we know it today was originally developed as a by product or additional use of high pressure melamine laminate.

Comprised from a base of several layers of paper which have been impregnated with several special resins and compressed under conditions of high pressure into a highly durable resistant composite, Laminate Flooring gets it design aspects from whichever paper was used in its composition

So this having been said, what about Flooring in general?

It is almost bizarre that we take for granted so very completely one of the most important aspects of any building that we come into and that is the part that we walk over every day that is to say the floor, and why would we not, it is permanently under our feet? It is the very nature of the fact that it is permanently under our feet that disguises its importance.

To prevent possible confusion later on in this article it might be an idea to actually take the time at this stage to go over the basics of what it is exactly we are referring to

In architecture, the floor is generally the lower horizontal surface of a room, and/or the supporting structure underneath it. Considering the concept of a floor is a very simple one you would be surprised at how confusing it can become when you start to describe the floor itself or any of the component parts. Quite often used to describe wood flooring, the term flooring in general is used by most to describe

the semi permanent covering of the basic part of any new structure.

The term that is normally used to describe any type of finish that is normally applied to cover any type of floor structure is referred to as Floor covering. More often than not the sort of materials found in floor coverings tend to consist of what is referred to as resilient flooring consisting of vinyl or linoleum or and rugs. On the other hand the sort of materials to be found comprising the actual floor itself tend to consist of wood, terrazzo, stone, ceramic tile or certain types of chemical coatings.

The choice of either what sort of floor is used or the type of floor covering used can be motivated by a number of various factors such as cost (usually the most important factor but not necessarily), endurance, noise insulation, comfort and the amount of effort required in cleaning and maintenance. It is also to be remembered or certainly taken into consideration that there are certain conditions that certain types of floors are not to be installed such as where the floor is below ground level and moisture levels might be important and in these instances laminate or hardwood floors should be avoided. However as in all situations in life there is always the odd exception to the rule.
